Fusion aftermath...

We had our first quarterly "Fusion" service for the year last night in the Life Church West Monroe sanctuary and it was kickin!

Our theme was "Revolution 07", "Challenged to Change." I want to thank the worship team for leading us in the presence of the Lord and to all who came out to support our Student Ministry!

FUSION III

This Wednesday January 10th at 6:30 P.M. we will have our first "Fusion" Service for the 2007 year.

"Fusion" is led by our student ministry but is joined by our adults in the main sanctuary at Life Chuch. We "merge" together to form one perfect union!

The message is prepared, the worship team is ready to explode, our T-Shirts are in, and we are geared up for this Wednesday!

I encourage you to show up early to make sure you are able to get a "Fusion" T-Shirt!

Mission Possible

"With men this is impossible, but all things are possible with God." (Matthew 19:26)

You know what God views as possible,sometimes humans view as impossible.
This Wednesday night in Xtreme Life, we will begin a series entitled, "Mission Possible 007" for the new 2007 year. We will discuss what tools you will need to make the mission for 2007 possible! There will be a pizza party following the service. See ya there and invite a friend!

Year Coming to an End

Well, as 2006 is coming to an end and we get ready to embark on a new year I can't help but look back and reflect on the past twelve months.

The year 2006 has had its ups and downs, highs and lows, mountains and valleys but above all, I would like to think I have grown from all these experiences.

I'd like to touch on some of the "highlights" from 2006.

Personally, Jodi and I received one of the greatest gifts we could ever ask for, a beautiful healthy baby daughter.

Spiritually, one of the greatest days of my journey was to have two pastors whom I respect greatly lay their hands on me to confirm the call of God upon my life.

Student Ministry wise, the most exciting point to me is to have several teen leaders step up and lead other teenagers. We started our first student led worship team in 2006 which is a huge step for us. We continue to grow spiritually and numerically, steadily.

It was exciting to see Life Church continue to move forward in the direction the Lord is leading us. As we continue to grow it is exciting to see the body of Christ continue to reach out and serve more and more! It is such an honor to serve with such great leaders as we have at Life Church!

Before I leave 2006 in 2006, I am taking time to hear the voice of God and prepare my heart for what 2007 has in store.

Live the Gospel

"Preach the gospel at all times and when necesarry...use words." -unknown

Living in the "Bible Belt" here in the south, people are all too familiar with churches. They've heard the name of Jesus, they've heard verses from the Bible being quoted, and many can quote the verses quite well themselves.

Yesterday, I was so very fortunate to be apart of an outreach that actually "lived the gospel." Jesus said he didn't come to be served but to serve. People want to see the gospel LIVED! People want to hear the preaching of the gospel WALKED OUT! I'm so very thankful Life Church is a church with "legs". The vision to serve must be walked and carried out!

Jail Ministry

"God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways,
in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world." (Hebrews 1:1-2)

Last night we ministered as we usually do every month, in the Union Parish Detention Center. From the start, there were more distractions and demonic activity going on than what I am used to. It is so assuring that when you boldly proclaim God's word it radiates light even in a very dark place.

We spoke on hearing God's voice through the written word and also his "rhema" word. I don't know about you, but I desperately need to be continually hearing Gods voice! And these guys, most whom have NEVER heard God's voice, do as well!

When all was said and done, we lead four inmates to the Lord Jesus Christ! What a way for these guys to wrap up 2006 and prepare for a new life in 2007!

A Great Weekend

This past weekend was a very memorable weekend for my family and I.
To start it off, we had the great honor to host my Pastor, Joel Dyke, and Pastor Billy Hornsby from South Carolina on an exciting good ole fashioned Red Cut Hunting Club adventure! Like always, Bro.Billy left with a deer in the bag! (I'm always amazed!)

Sunday, was a day I will never forget as my Pastor and Bro. Billy prayed over my wife and I as they ordained me.
It was a day, not to honor me, but to honor what God has done and will do. I consider myself to be blessed. Blessed because I have a family, friends, and a great home church in Life Church that means everything to me!

I want to thank all who were able to attend. It was a very special day.

Never too late!

"Your daughter is dead," they said. "Why bother the teacher anymore?" Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, "Don't be afraid: just believe." (Mark 5:35-36)

"Lord," Martha said to Jesus, "if you had been here, my brother would not have died." (John 11:21)

We see from two different instances in the word where people felt they were in a hopeless situation. They felt as though the "deal was sealed", "the nails were in the coffin", "the fat lady had sung". "Your daughter is dead, Lazarus is dead!" There is no overturning what has taken place, what's done is done!

Maybe you find yourself in a situation like that now, a dead situation. A hopeless situation. A situation that looks like it could never be fixed or made right.

Let me tell you these situations couldn't have seemed more hopeless, I mean these people were DEAD! You can't get anymore hopeless than that! But when Jesus comes on the scene...c'mon now as Bro.Joel would say...there is never a situation he can't reverse! Circumstances he can't reverse! Situations he can't raise from the dead! Lost people he can't raise from the dead! Finances he can't raise from the dead! A sick body he can't heal!

All we are to do is simply...believe.

Remember

“Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.” (Hebrews 13:3)

Last night in our Student Ministry we wrapped up the month of November with a message entitled, "Remember." It was a informational and educational teaching on what the Bible says about the poor and the persecuted. An estimated 200 million Christians worldwide suffer interrogation, arrest and even death for their faith in Christ, with another 200 to 400 million facing discrimination and alienation. Now I'm not talking about 2,000 years ago, I'm talking about in todays time! Can you say, "wow"! What will we do about this information? Ignore it? Act like it doesn't exist? Act like it's not happening? Or pray! Or get involved! We choose to educate our teenagers about other teenagers worldwide who are suffering. Several of our teens did a illustrative skit of what it would be like to have radical muslims storm in a service and oppose the gospel! (Great job guys!)

For the month of December, we will have the opportunity to remember the poor through the Networkers ministry of Life Church. Join us as we go to the poorest of the poor in our area and hand out free groceries. We will also have the opportunity to visit local nursing homes and love on the elderly.

A Time to Reflect

I know we need to be doing this (being thankful) on a daily basis but with Thanksgiving upon us it is an even better time to reflect.

I know everybody has their on definition of "being rich" and according to my definition, I am.(not financially speaking.)

Top 10 Reasons Why I am Rich:

1) My salvation.
2) My wife.
3) My daughter.
4) My family.
5) My health to enjoy them with.
6)Opportunity to make a living.
7) My Pastor/Mentor/Friend
8) A few people I can trully call friends in my life.
9) God's planted me in the country (where i can hunt!)

Jail Ministry

I had the privilege of accompanying Ricky Nolan of Hope Street Ministries to preach in the Union Parish Detention Center in Farmerville, Louisiana last night. Bro.Rick and I have worked off and on for the past 5-6 years in jail/street ministry. Rick has served faithfully in these areas now for over 18 years.

It is such a "rush" to bring the gospel in such a dark place as we were. The gospel brings light and freedom no matter how dark a place is;no matter how oppressed a place is;no matter how bound the captives are,the gospel sets those free to whom receive it! It is encouraging to see the attentiveness and responsiveness of the inmates. Rick and I "tag teamed" preached and then had the honor to pray for over a dozen inmates, two of which recieved salvation for the first time.

I always have such a great time but am always grateful they let me out!

Just a little while longer

Our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. —2 Corinthians 4:17

During my devotion time this morning this verse really ministered to me. May it minister to those of you who are experiencing some type of trial or affliction. May you be encouraged to keep on keeping on and that it is just "alittle while longer." It's only temporary! Stay focused! Eyes on the goal! Stay the course!

LAST NIGHTS SERVICE

We had a powerful service in our Student Ministry last night as we completed the second part of our current series, "Speak the Language".

You know as I looked around last night I was encouraged to see a room full of teenagers. We haven't seen "explosive" growth over night but it has been consistent and it has been steady. I've seen teenagers develop into Godly leaders who are now and will lead one day. We have a great "team" of leaders that helps "get it done" every week. As I see more and more teenagers begin to respond to God's word and God's call to "come follow him" I am encouraged.

UPCOMING EVENTS

We will be playing an extreme game of paintball this Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at the Northgate Paintball off of I-165. We will all meet at the facility at 1:00 P.M. and will play until about 3:00 P.M. The church will cover the cost to get in ($8). Come sling some paint!

We wrap up our series next week on a message entitled, "The Rut"- Lust, Love, and Sex. We aren't holding anything back next week! Also, don't forget about the cool hunting giveaways we've been giving out each week! And yes, girls we have some for you as well!

I see dead deer...

"Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature (deer) that moves on the ground." (Genesis 1:28) paraphrase mine

The next several months are the most favorite of the year for me. You possibly will see my entrie wardrobe change to camouflage for a while. This past week was a full-filling one for me while I spent a few mornings and afternoons in the woods taking advantage of the cooler weather. Myself and my brother in law went hunting after the white-tailed deer this past week and three deer later...well, let's not get into a long story here. Let's just say we got our meat in the freezer so now it's time to hunt the big boys!

We continue with our current series for the month tomorrow night (Wednesday) with a message entitled, "Speak the Language". It is based out of I. Corinthians 10:22-23. "I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings."

Now if I'm trying to call in a white-tailed deer would I use a turkey call? If I was trying to call in (reach) a turkey would I use a grunt call? Of course not! So why is it as Christians we do that when trying to reach the lost? Speak the language!

Come on out this Wednesday night where we will experience an encounter with the Holy Spirit through worship, a life changing message that only the Word of God could bring, awesome friendships, and cool giveaways!

New Series for the month of November!

We will begin an exciting new series this November in the Student Ministry entitled, "Speak The Language."
Next Wednesday November 1, I will be teaching on a message entitled, "Camouflage."

So many times we hide behind so many things in our lives...we "camouflage" ourselves!

It's going to be an exciting service and series! Since it's "Camo Night" be sure and come dressed in your favorite camouflage! There will be free giveaways and funny videos to help relay the gospel!

The Will of Suffering

"He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering...Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities: the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed...Yet it was the Lord's will to crush him and cause him to suffer..." (Isaiah 53:2-5;10)

Why so much talk lately on trials, trouble, and suffering?! Sometimes we minister best when it is ourselves that are experiencing these things. Doesn't the Bible say in II. Corinthians 1:4 that "God is the Father of compassion and who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have recieved from God."?

The Bible said that Jesus was a man "familiar with sufferings". Do you feel sometimes "familiar with sufferings?" The Bible is full of stories of great men and women of the word who were "familiar with sufferings." Think of Moses, Joseph, Daniel, Elijah, John the Baptist, John the Revelator, and of course...Jesus!

So many times we go through trails or sufferings in our lives and we quickly begin to rebuke the devil. Did it ever occur to us our trials may not be stimming from the devil but...Jesus? In Isaiah it says, it was the Lords will to "crush him and cause him to suffer." But why would God allow that? Remember in Matthew it says, "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness...for great is your reward in heaven." I believe if we follow Jesus (regardless of popular teachings) we will suffer and go through trials. Wait, then why should I follow Jesus, that doesn't sound too fun! Remember, we came to Jesus in pursuit of forgiveness, not happiness!

I believe when we are "crushed and experience suffering" God himself is trying to strain the "us out of us". We trully can't be used to the capacity the Father wants to use us in unless..."we die" as Paul would put it. I believe out of intense suffering the man or woman of God is trully manifested.

Back in the day, the way to get the oil out of the grapes was to "crush them". I believe its the same today, the way to get the oil (annointing) out of us is that we be "crushed". Get the us out of us, the me out of me, the flesh to submit, and allow the will of the Father to come forth!

If you are going through it I encourage you to be faithful! The most important thing is our obedience to the Father, even through trials and suffering!

The Blessing of Trouble

"In the day of my trouble, I sought the Lord." (Psalm 77:2)

Do the words "blessing" and "trouble" go together??? Many times we think of the phrase "being blessed" means that no hard times come our way. That couldn't be further from the truth. What bigger blessing could there be than to have trouble come our way and it push us to seek after a closer relationship with God! Fun to go through? No! Good for us? Yes! If we allow it!
The cold hard truth is, if it weren't for difficult times or "trouble" some of us wouldn't seek after the Lord. Sometimes, God has to allow hardships to come our way to humble us and cause us to turn our hearts in burning passion to him!

A few days ago we had a powerful storm come through our area. Many people got up to 10 inches of rain that day. It was dark, stormy, and gloomy that day! Trees were down, roofs were leaking, and streets were filled with water. The next day I woke up and couldn't help but realize how beautiful the morning looked. Birds singing, blue skies, and a bright yellow sunshine! The day before was quite different but today was a new day! The moral of the story? The good thing about storms are they pass!

Maybe you are going through troublesome times right now. At work. In your marriage. Financially. May your heart be turned in seeking the Lord and this storm too shall pass!

California Adventure Park Finale

New York Life rented out the entire park for a "private party" for all the NYL agents and thier families. It was a lot of fun! We will be returning to West Monroe tomorrow. Enjoy the pics!

Laguna Beach and my new car!!!

Guess what!? Jodi got me a red 2006 Ford Mustang convertible for our "4th" Anniversary! (Well, I have it until 9 A.M. tomorrow morning but we won't tell anybody)
Jodi got a great deal on a rental car (only $50 for the day) and we spent the day at Laguna Beach. The day started out with lots of "haze" but cleared out by the afternoon. We threw the top back and cruised on the Pacific Coast. It was cool. Enjoy the pics!

Get some rest

"The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said, to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." (Mark 6:31-31)

The apostles had just returned to report to Jesus everything they had done in their ministry! Lives saved! Miracles! Healings! Their time was consumed by the many people that needed their help that they didn't even have time to eat! Talk about busy! What Jesus was saying here was, "Guys, that is great!" "But don't forget, activity doesn't always mean productivity". You need not get the two greatest commandments confused, "First, love the Lord, then love your neighbor as yourself." Don't get too busy ministering to people you forget to minister to God! Don't lose your relationship with God by being so "busy."

Jodi and I are currently enjoying a very much needed vacation/business /anniversary trip in Anahiem, California awarded to us by the NYL, the company I represent. I can't remember the last time I slept so good during the night. I popped up early around 5:45-6:00 and "went away with the Lord by myself to get some rest." We are "resting in the Lord this week". Sometimes we need to refresh ourselves not only spiritually, but emotionally, physically, and mentally as well.

We kicked it by the pool today and tomorrow we go to Disney Land followed by Laguna Beach Thursday. I've been to some very great business meetings with thousands of other NYL agents literally all over the U.S. The company has really gone above and beyond to show thier appreciation to all the agents. It was for sure worth all the hard work. Tonight, we will enjoy a wonderful dinner banquet and have the opportunity to meet and have our picture taken with CEO Sy Sternberg.

Jodi and I will celebrate our "4th Year" Wedding Anniversary on the 28th this week. Man, took me four years to get this girl right...(Just messing). Jodi, thank you for four wonderful years! Each year has gotten better! Pastor and Angel, thank you for working with us through all of the "bumps" along the way! God used you mightily in our lives and still does til this day! We love you very much!

Been too busy this week? Even busy doing "spiritual" things? Go in your room, close the door and be with God! He is calling you! Can you hear him? Over the hectic schedule, can you hear him calling? Over the cares and worrys of the world, can you feel him drawing? Go rest in him! Get some rest spirit man!

Who is the greatest?

Ali said he was but my chips are still on "Iron" Mike Tyson...
So how do you determine who is "great" in this world? Do you measure greatest by money, prestige, big homes, fast cars, big bank accounts, social status? "Beck, that's the worlds way!" Okay, let's spiritualize this abit. How do you measure greatness spiritually? The most annointed? The best put together sermon? The biggest buildings?

In Mark 9 Jesus questioned his disciples about a discussion they had while walking down the road. The disciples had kept quite because thier discussion had been about "who was the greatest among them". Can you think about how that discussion may have sounded? They were probably comparing each others "greatness" by who had prayed more, who knew the scriptures best, who had healed more diseases, cast out more devils, you get the picture!

But Jesus basically said, "Guys, you got it all wrong." "You got it backwards, you see yes all those things are great and important but if you really want to be great listen to this." "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all." POW! That had to hit them square in the face!

We live in a society that says, "Me first!" We want to be first in line, first at bat, first in competitions, first, first, first! We think greatness is measured by having people under us, telling others what to do, but if that is our mentallity we have it backwards!

Can you think of the "great" Mother Teresa (yes, she was Catholic) who decided to be "last", gave up her life, and lived to serve others! Not much to show for on this earth huh? But I can imagine when she stepped into heaven the angels might have said, "Step aside boys, this lady is coming to the front of the line!" She was great on earth! She served!

Take some time today and read more on servanthood in John 13. Find somebody today and serve! We reach those we serve!

A night out on the town...

We've almost made it through the week and boy am I enjoying this nice cooler weather! (My neck is starting to swell as hunting season approaches us.)

Well, the wife and I (and baby girl) are getting ready for a night out with Pastor Joel and his family. We are thinking about grubbing at the Waterfront Grill in Monroe. Sounds like a good choice to me. I always enjoy the fellowship of my Pastor and his family. Isn't it cool to be able to have a Pastor down-to-earth enough to kick back and hangout with?

Your Level of Commitment

"...he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does." (James 1:8)

"Beck, one thing that concerns me about you is your stability." Those words of a particular pastor cut deep in my heart over six years ago but changed my life forever. His words were true, I was becoming unstable. But was it my fault? Events in my past had molded me to be this way. Jumping from one place to another, from one church to another, from one school to another, from one "belief" to another....unstable....double-minded in ALL I did. I decided whether my fault or not that I was going to do something about that! I wanted to be a stable person!

Show me a person who "church hops" or who "flakes" and I will show you a person whose WHOLE life is unstable,whose marriage is unstable,whose jobs are unstable,whose relationships have been and will be unstable.

But you show me a person who is totally committed to God and where God has planted him and I will show you a stable person, a stable marriage, stable relationships, etc.

Seem a bit harsh? Maybe not harsh enough! What does the word commitment mean to us? Does it mean staying in a marriage or in a job or in a church commited enough until someone or something makes us mad? Until the pastor does something we don't agree with? Until we don't get our way? Until the boss man "does us wrong"?
Let me say this, if one does not love people, have deep character, and a true level of commitment the ministry is not for him or her! Yes, regardless of the gifts or annointing one may possess!

Over three years ago when I first arrived at Life Church West Monroe I felt the Lord impress in my spirit, "I am going to teach you how to be faithful and committed." By remaining faithful to where God has planted me (Life Church) and by knowing my place (completely submitted to my Pastor) my life has become stable. Funny how when you get these traits in order the rest of your life gets in order. I refuse to live my life unstable any longer! I refuse not to get in me an unshakable level of commitment! You see that is what it takes! Commitment! Commited people! Commited churches!

FUSION II

FUSION-THE MERGING TOGETHER OF TWO DIFFERENT ELEMENTS TO FORM ONE UNION...

This past Wednesday night we "merged" together with the adults at Life Church West Monroe for our second "Fusion Service." We didn't allow the differences in our age and culture to divide us but united for the sole purpose of worshipping Jesus Christ! And worship him we did! The worship team did the BEST I've ever seen them do in leading us into the presence of God. (Guys, I'm proud of you!) The worship team overcame alot of obstacles satan threw thier way this week but as the word says, "we are more than conquerors." Anytime the enemy comes at you so hard look out, you just may have a move of God on the horizon!

We had a message from the word of God concerning Guarding our testimony on how we as Christians are "Not for Sale." We had a wonderful time of ministry at the end of service praying to God for people who came forward in faith for prayer!

Thank you Jesus for showing up and thank you everybody for all your hard work in putting this together! Thanks Pastor Joel for allowing us to come over and share the service with us!

Happy B-Day Xtreme Life!

Well...I'm about eight days behind on this but on August 20th three years ago, Life Church (then River of Life) founded its 1st student ministry with two hopeful teens.

Three years later we are seeing God continue to grow the student ministry including growing the teen leadership. It has been a very exciting three years and I look forward to many more to come.

Thank you to ALL of our teen leaders who "make it happen" every Wednesday night and thank you Pastor Joel for humoring us three years ago and giving us a shot!

My First Time

Pastor Joel and myself had the opportunity to watch the Monday Night Football game in Shreveport, Louisiana between the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints in which was my "1st" NFL experience.

We dodged traffic, long lines, and heavy rain to watch the two NFL teams battle it out.
We had the opportunity to watch many great athletes play some of which weren't too far from home (Bradie James of West Monroe/LSU, Marcus Spears of LSU, and many others)

Voices in the Head, Issues in the Heart

We had a great service yesterday at Life Church West Monroe. After a wonderful time of worship, we got into the word ministering on "Voices in the Head, Issues in the Heart." (Mark Murphy and Rob Tucker did a fantastic job with the bumper video.) I would like to thank Pastor for giving me the opportunity to minister God's word while he was out on a much deserved vacation in Gulf Shores. Thank you Pastor Joel!

The Bible says in I. Peter 1:13 to "Therefore, prepare your minds for action." The mind is indeed a great battlefield and many of times the battles are lost and won here. There are many people that are held captive in the mind by Satan who has a "mental stronghold" on them. Satan has no right unless we agree with him to have any territory in our minds.

Exciting weekend at Life Church

Talk about some exciting times going on at Life Church West Monroe!

This past Saturday we took our core leadership from our Student Ministry to "The Gathering" at Hodge, Louisiana this weekend. It is a youth event that brings unity to the different churches and teens in the area to worship God. We preached "The end of myself" to the teenagers who responded to God's drawing after the message. We have a great group of teenagers here at Life Church and I am so thankful to have them as leaders!

Bro.Joel wrapped up a two week series on marriage this Sunday to a packed house! We had to pull out some "emergency chairs" due to the overflow of people. You know Satan would love nothing more than to destroy and divide the home! It was good to get a two week message on how to strengthen your marriage! Thanks Bro.Joel!

"Set my heart on fire Lord"

Here lately everyone has been talking about how hot and humid it is (as we do every year in Louisiana.) Well last night during our youth meeting we posed the question, "How "hot" is your relationship with God?

The Bible says in Revelation 3:15-16, "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other. So, because you are lukewarm neither hot nor cold-I am about to spit you out of my mouth." Nice verse huh?

John the Baptist was a man that was consumed with the fire of God and the passion of Jesus. Jesus even said, "there is none greater than John the Baptist." His relationship to God was everything; his life, his desire, his world! He was completely surrendered to the will of God and totally dead to the world.

Sadly, many have grown "cold" in their walk with God and the things of God. When at one time, the thought of worship and prayer use to ignite something in thier hearts. The thought of coming together as a church to honor the Lord use to burn like a fire within thier heart but now...the heart has become cold, numb to the things of God.

I. Thes. 5:19 says, "Do not put out the spirit's fire." When ministering to the youth last night they were challenged that whatever they do, don't allow the fire to go out in thier hearts! Keep the "fire killers" out of your life!

Fire puts out light right? I believe that people who spend time with Jesus should have such a passion about thier relationship that others around them would take notice. "Let your light shine before men..." John Wesley said, "Get on fire and people will come just to watch you burn."

In Luke 24:32 after the disciples had spent time with Jesus they said, "were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the scriptures to us?"

Want something to get fired up about? Why not our relationship with God?

Let's develop a passionate walk with God by allowing God to set our hearts on fire for him!

Supporting your Pastor

"Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that thier work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you." (Hebrews 13:17)

Since coming to Life Church to serve over three years ago my respect for pastors has gone up tremendously. So many people think that being a Pastor would be the ideal job. I mean all they do is get to pray and preach right? Hmm...think again! There are so many things that pastors have to do "behind the scenes" that people never see. They are far too numerous to name so I won't even go there.

Point is, I often think, "Am I a joy or a burden to my pastor? Maybe we all need to ask ourselves that question. So many times, we only bring the negative to our pastors attention instead of all the positive we see going on.

I want to challenge you this weekend. Get behind our pastor! Support him! Pray for him! Be good to him and not only him, but his family. He watches over us like a good leader!

Thank you Pastor Joel for everything you do for Life Church WM and our community. Angel, Bekah, and Hannah, thank you for giving your lives for the gospel!

Xtreme Life Wednesday Night...

Welp, if you missed this past Wednesday nights youth service you missed a good one! The youth band was passionate as ever as they led us into God's presence in worship.
We wrapped up our three week series with the last message entitled, "Speak no evil...". We talked about the power of the tongue and how there is life and death in the words we speak. We had several teens respond in obedience to God's word during our ministry time. God's spirit really moved! As his spirit touches us let us then go out and touch others that need to be touched!

I repent!

Well, I need to confess something. I did something to our Pastor here at Life Church West Monroe that I feel very bad about. I mean, how could I have done this? After all Pastor Joel has done. He's been there for me, counseled me, given me opportunities to serve, and I go off and do this?!

Well, here is what happened. I beat our Pastor twice last night in NCAA Football on the Play Station...Yes...on his own turf.

The Greatness of knowing Christ

"But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things." (Philippians 3:7-8)

Paul was a man whose life was radically changed by the power of Christ. Before Christ, Paul was known as Pastor Joel put it, "a present day Bin-Laden". He was a very "religious" man who was faultless as far as the law was concerned. If there was an award given for being "religious" Paul would have won it. But knowing God is not about being "religious" it's about having an intimate relationship! It's not about what you look like on the outside, it's about having Christ living on the inside of you!

Paul said that nothing compares to knowing Christ! As a matter of fact, he considered everything else a loss compared to knowing Christ! Sadly, many people have forsaken knowing Christ instead to run after other things. Relationships, money, social status, are just a few things that people allow to compare to knowing Christ and compete with a relationship with him.

Paul said "I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead." (Philippians 3:10-11)

How badly do you want to know Christ? What competes with Christ in your life? What competes to take the place of the relationship with him? Is it worth it? Remember, nothing compares to the greatness of knowing Christ Jesus!

Got Paint?

We just wrapped up a morning of fun-filled paint-slingin, sweat pourin paintball fun! Wait a minute here!!! Christians can't do that! We dont' need to be teaching teenagers to have fun now do we? Where in the world is the church headed!!!??? Oh my gosh! Please!!! Jesus is the King of Joy! We preach Jesus to these teens week in and week out! It's okay to have alittle fun along with it huh? Feed em nanchos, chips, and fill the room with PSII's who cares! The point is, once they are there they are going to get a straight forward message from the word of God! If they get it with cheese runnin down thier face, who cares! Didn't it say in Corinthians to, "find a common ground?".

I spent my high school years having fun alright! Right along with the devil! I thought Christians were nerd's and didn't know how to have fun. Well, we are seeing these teenangers get right with Jesus and why should't Christians have the most fun? I mean, we do know the true meaning of life!

Anyways, I had a blast guys! (little sore from getting shot) I love all of you and you are the best teens ever! I'm proud of you!

"See no evil..."

"The eye is the lamp of the body..." (Luke 11:33)

Tonight, we started a three week series entitled, "See no evil...hear no evil...speak no evil". The series will be about guarding your eyes, ears, and mouth. We talked about guarding our eyes from the lust driven society that we live in today. These teenagers are bombarded with lust-filled MTV videos, reality shows, pornography, and the list goes on!

Satan has been trying to get to us through the "eyes" since the beginning. "When the woman saw the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eyes she took some and ate it." Genesis 3:6

King David was tempted "through the eyes" in II. Sam. 11 when he lusted after Bathesheba. Just "looking" won't hurt will it? Just "looking" led to adultery, murder, and the death of his son! Sin has consequences!

So how do we guard our eyes or "see no evil" in such a day as this? The Bible says in Matthew 5:29 "If your right eye causes you to sin gouge it out." No not literally, but what it means is this; If you have problems on the computer don't get on it! Throw it away! Shot it! But gouge it out! If you can't help but look at that lady that works in the store, don't go in it! Turn your head! Gouge it out!

Job said "I made a covenant with my eyes..." We challenged the teens tonight to make a covenant with their eyes! A binding agreement not to "see no evil."

A Day to Remember

On June 27th, 2006 at 2:04 P.M. my life was forever changed when my wife gave birth to Gracen Hope Payne. I was not ready for the storm of joy and emotion I would feel when I saw my precious baby girl come into this world.

I would like to thank everyone for their prayers for my wife and Gracen's safety during the delivery. Life Church is our family and we thank everyone for visiting and being there for us during this exciting time!

Grace and Hope

God gave Jodi this name (Gracen Hope, sounds like Grace and Hope) for our child one morning as she was praying. How true it is that we are in desperate need of God's "Grace N' Hope."

What's in your account?

"Not that I am looking for a gift, but I am looking for what may be credited to your account." ( Philippians 4:17)

We work hard to build us up savings, retirement, and other resources to give us more comfort while here on earth. All of these "things" will one day turn to rust and we certainly can't take them with us in eternity. So why work so hard for something that is temporary?

The Bible tells us to "not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matt.6:19-21)

What ashame if we were to build up our earthly account only to find our heavenly account empty one day. We are to build us up a heavenly account! Everytime you win a soul to Christ that is credited to your account! Everytime you give to a missionary who wins a soul to Christ that is credited to your account! Everytime you serve or bless others you build up your account! Everytime you take the time to spend with a child that goes to your account!

Pregnant with a Promise

"This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 1:18)

Each year my wife and I pray for God to give us a "word" for the upcoming year. In 2005, the Lord gave my wife the word "expectancy" and this year he gave me the word "fulfillment."

As most of you know Jodi is pregnant and about to give birth to a baby girl. For the past 9 months we've been "expecting" something. We've been expecting a promise to be fulfilled. There were pains that Jodi has been going through since her pregnancy but she is "expecting" a promise to be fulfilled that will make it worth it.

Did you know that you can be spiritually "expecting"? Spiritually pregnant? What has God promised you? There is a word that God has spoken over your life that you conceived and now you are spiritually impregnanted by that promise and you are waiting for that promise to come forth. It may seem like it's been taking a while but you are spiritually pregnant, it takes time. It may seem like its taken awhile to come forth. To manifest. To come to pass. To be fulfilled but it's coming forth because you are spiritually pregnant. Sure it may hurt while the time passes. There may be pain, there may be trials but it will be all worth it when the promise of God for your life gives birth!

Xtreme Life Night

Tonight, we had another great service in our student ministry here at Life Church.
Ian, Hannah, and Caleb led us in several wonderful worship songs to our Lord. You are doing a great job guys!
We taught from Genesis 11 about living for Christ or living for ourselves. Are we involved in God's plans for our lives or are we "making a name for ourselves"? We really challenged the students tonight from the word of God.
We wrapped up the message with a powerful testimony from Hannah Dyke. GREAT JOB HANNAH! It is so encouraging to see the fruit of the Holy Spirit in our teenagers lives!
Matt Nance came in behind me and wrapped up the service wonderfully as he always does.
Last and least, we had alot of fun playing a few games of volleyball. (my team won and no it was not rigged."

Day at Duck Commander

Well I did it! I took an afternoon of work off! No worries! No cares! Just laid back fun!
I had the honor to spend an entire afternoon at the home/business of the Duck Commander, Inc. by invitation from my good friend Jeptha Robertson.
We started off our afternoon with a wonderfully cooked meal by his mother Mrs. Kay Robertson her self. Man, that woman can cook!
After lunch, Jep and I headed off to a private pond located at the end of the earth to do some fishing. We spent around five hours catching all the large-mouth bass we could handle but releasing them after each catch.
After our adventure, we headed back to my place with his wife and kids for supper. Of course we couldn't finish off the evening until we had watched the latest DuckMen video, "Relentless."

Lessons from the Tower of Babel

SIn Genesis chapter 11 we read about the famous story of the Tower of Babel. After reading this story, there are several lessons I can take from it that speaks into my life. I'll share a few of them with you.

Now a long time ago, the world only spoke one language prior to this event in time.

In Genesis chapter 11 verse 4 it says, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves..."

Lesson #1 Quit trying to make a name for yourself.

So many times in life we live to make ourselves known. We want to be in the spotlight, we want to get all the recognition, we want to make a name for ourselves. We go through life making our own plans and our own agenda's never seeking the council or advice of the Holy Spirit. In other words, we do our own thing!
The Bible says that Jesus was a man of no reputation. In other words, Jesus didn't go around trying to make a name for himself! The Bible says, that God lifts up the humble but brings down the proud. John the Baptist said, "He must become greater and I must become less."
God does have a way of lifting us up but only when we bring ourselves low at his feet.

LESSON #2 God may mess up your plans.

"Come let us go down and confuse thier language..." (Genesis 11:7)

When God sees that the plans we've made in our heart could stear us from his will he may come down to "confuse" those plans. He does it because he loves us not because he's "mean." Aren't you glad he's "confused" some of your plans in your life?

"Many are the plans of a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails." Proverbs 19:21

Self-Esteem

"Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness..." (Genesis 1:26)

This past Wednesday night we discussed the topic concerning alot of teenagers today and that is self-esteem.

A recent country music song came out and it talks about how all week long some people are nobodies but the weekend is here and it's time to "get drunk and be somebody." Sad huh? Do you really think a bottle is going to make someone special? Yea, maybe for a moment but you always wake up with that same "empty" feeling inside. You don't need a bottle, or a pill, or a million dollars to make yourself feel like somebody.

Alot of teenagers find thier self worth in what other people think. They tried hard to "fit in" by doing the things necessary to do to "fit in". Insecure in themselves, they hide behind a fake laugh, a new haircut, a joint, a drink, or even in the back seat of a car.

Before we jump on the teens case, we do it ourselves as adults. Insecure of who we are in Christ, we try to "be somebody" by driving the nicest vehicles, or owning the nicest homes, or being the best dressed.

There are two questions we need to ask ourselves concerning our self-esteem.

1) How do I see myself?
2) How does God see me?

So how do you see yourself? Unimportant? Not wanted? A waste of space and air? Ugly inside? Not loved?

How does God see you? You were made in his image and he didn't make a mistake when he made you! No, he made a priceless work of art when he made you! The Bible says you were "fearfully and wonderfully made!" He put you together very carefully! There is not another you out there! In other words, God didn't make any junk! And your self worth? You were worth so much that he died for you! When is the last time someone went through what Christ went through for you? No one ever has and no one ever will!

Today, realize that you are somebody and its not because of any thing YOU have done! You are somebody because Christ loves you, died for you, and wants to have a relationship with you!

KMCT Tonight

I had the honor to do something that I don't really do very often and that is to go on Christian T.V. I was invited to go on with Bro. Mike Reed of Lamb Broadcasting to talk alittle about what God is doing in and through the student ministry at Life Church. Bro. Mike and I also studied Daniel 3 to talk about the trials we go through as Christians.

"Fully Alive" will air tonight at 7:00 P.M. on KMCT.

Dixie Diehard Saturday

We had a great Life Church WM showing at the Biedenharn Baseball Complex in West Monroe this past Saturday for the Dixie Diehard's game.

Dixie Diehard's is a baseball leauge for kids with either physical or mental disabilities (usually both) that require the help of a "buddy" to assist him or her in playing the game. It's very humbling assisting someone that is almost totally reliable on your help and protection. These kids aren't worried about the score or how many hits they got during a game, they are only interested in having a good time. This game also gives the parents of the disabled kids a chance to be a "parent" for about two hours as they have a break while someone else is helping with thier kids.

I couldn't help but notice as I was standing out in the field with my "buddy" the baseball field next to us. The game that was being played there was quite different than the one I was involved in. I watched as "normal" kids were hitting and fielding on thier own while thier parents watched proudly in the stands. I couldn't help but wonder how that made the parents of the kids I was involved with feel. Questions like, "Why my kid?" or "I wonder what it's like to sit in those stands?" may have crossed thier minds. If it did I couldn't tell because these parents were just as proud or prouder of thier "disabled" kids.

We overheard a grandmother saying to her grandson, "It is only by God's blessing that you aren't in those other kids shoes." We were surprised to hear the grandkids response, "Grandmother, I think they are the ones that are trully blessed."

Maybe we can learn something from these very special individuals.

Who can you help?

"Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act."
(Proverbs 3:27)

All of us have been given some measure of "power" here on earth. Even Jesus Christ told Pilate and I paraphrase, "the only power you have has been given to you from my Father in heaven."

Alot of people who have "power" abuse that power and will use it to manipulate people.

The Bible tells us "not to withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in YOUR power to act."

Who around you do you have the power to help? Financially? Spiritually? Do you have the opportunity to help someone be promoted? Do you have the power to bless someone's business? Has God prompted you to bless someone that has been faithful and deserving? If you have the power and the opportunity to do good to someone and you don't then who will?

God does good to us even when we don't deserve it so how much more should we do good to those that do?

Strolling through Proverbs

I've been spending alot of time in the book of Proverbs lately and I tell you what...I'm enjoying it! To me, there isn't another book in the Bible that is so relevant to our everyday life.
The next few post's, I would like to take some time to talk about a few scriptures in the book of Proverbs.

Proverbs 3:5-6

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight (or he will direct your paths)"

1. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart."
Man, that can be a tough one. If there is anyone on this earth whom we can trust can't it be God? But why is it sometimes it IS so tough to trust him? Maybe the word trust has been thrown around by other relationships we've been in. Maybe you've heard the words, "trust me" from another person and that statement hasn't meant much to you.
We are told to trust God with ALL of our heart. Not some of it. Not half of it. ALL of it! When we do, we will experience peace and joy beyond our comprehension.
2. "lean not on your own understanding."
You may be going through something in your life now and asking yourself, "Why am I going through this?" "I don't understand why this is happening." "Why did this happen to my friend?" or "Why didn't I get that big case?".
We are told not to lean on our understanding I believe because OUR own understanding is limited. In other words, we can't see the big picture, only God does! He alone knows what's best and we must trust in that!
3. "in all your ways acknowledge him"
In every area of your life we are to acknowledge God. Through the good and the bad! We are to say, "Lord, I don't know why I'm going through this but I acknowledge your presence! I acknowledge your goodness and I praise you for it!
4. "and he will direct your paths"
When we are truly trusting God in our lives and giving him full acknowledgement of every aspect we not need to worry about where our lives are headed because he is first and foremost in our lives! "Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these other things will be added unto you as well." (Matt. 6:33)

Praise you in this Storm

"That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side." Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat."

As believers we must realize that Jesus is always trying to take us places in our Christian walk. He doesn't want us "complacent" in our walk. He doesn't want us to be the same today as we were a year ago, so he must "take" us places.

"A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, dont' you care if we drown?"

As Jesus takes us places through life there will be times where we go through storms. Notice as they were going through this storm Jesus was asleep on a cushion.
Maybe you are going through a storm right now and you are asking yourself, "Does Jesus care what I'm going through?" "How can he "sleep" when I am going through this storm?" We must realize all through Jesus DOES care about what we go through he isn't "caught off guard" by it.

"He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!"
Can you imagine what this scene may have looked like? Lightning! Thunder! Waves crashing over and in the boat and no Jesus waking up! Notice that none of those things woke him but when one of his children called on him...That will preach!...He woke up!

Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?

As sure as the sun comes up we can be sure we will go through storms in life but there will be a point where Jesus steps in and speaks to your storm, "Quiet! Be still!" "That's enough!" My child can take no more!"

What God would teach us through this passage I believe is we need to learn to praise him through the storms of life! We need to see that God is not only good when things are going good but God is good all the time, even when things appear to not be going good! Take heart! God is with you in your storm!

The Price for Freedom

Almost two years ago I came to a turning point in my secular career. My dad was retiring after 24 years with State Farm, five or more of those years which I worked for him, and it was time for me to make a decision. I decided to become an agent myself with the New York Life because I wanted the opportunity to "be my own boss." In other words, I wanted to be free! In charge of my own time! What many don't realize is freedom comes with a price. Yes, I'm able to hunt more, enjoy time with my wife more, and spend more time doing the things I like to do but not without a price! Hard work and unfaltering commitment must be paid for this freedom! In other words, freedom is not free!

Jesus Christ come to this earth to set us free from sin but not without a price! He paid the ultimate price by dying on a cross for our sins that we may enjoy the freedom in Christ we have now.

As we approach Memorial Day Weekend, we must remember the price that was paid for our freedom! We are to honor the dead of those who died in combat for the freedom of others! We have many brothers and sisters in Christ that have given thier lives for the sake of the gospel we need to remember as well.

Enjoy your weekend but remember the freedom with have today whether it be in Christ, in this country, or in any other area there had to be a price to pay! Be thankful!

House of Payne wins B-Ball Tournament!

We kicked off the Out of School service tonight with our new worship leader Ian Smith! Man, does the boy have a great voice or what? Glad to have you on board Ian!

Welp, after we wrapped up our youth service it was off to the B-Ball court for our much anticipated B-Ball Championship game! Remember, food is on the line here! (and maybe just a little pride too :)

My team, House of Payne, consisted of Cody Sinclair and Caleb Nance; two of my best buds! We took on Da Balla's who has, up to this point, been undefeated as well! We started off to a quick 5-1 lead but the lead started to fade quick. Before you knew it, the game was slipping from our hands! When it was almost said and done, the game was tied 9-9 when Caleb Nance hit a fading jump shot that won the game for us! Great job Caleb!

So next week it's off to the restaurant of our choice (on Pastor Joel of course). After the game, we were informed by Pastor Joel that the 2nd Place Balla's were going to be able to come along and enjoy a mean with us anyways. I have to say, they played hard and had a great attitude! It's gonna be a blast!

It's Youth Night!

Welp...it's 4:37 P.M. and the youth ministry service is getting closer by the minute.
Tonight we will be discussing the topic of "Anger Management". Is it wrong to be angry? Is anger controling us or are we controling anger? What does the Bible say about anger? Well, we'll have to see tonight!

We will also be wrapping up our 3 on 3 basketball tournament tonight. My team has made it to the championship game (no it was not fixed) so I will let you know the outcome tomorrow! The winning team will get to go out to eat on and with Pastor Joel next Wednesday night! You know I'm not passing up a free meal so I will see to it my team wins! Somehow, someway :)

Does God trust you?

We've all been asked the question, "Do you trust God?" but another question we need to ask ourselves is, "Does God trust me?" "What do you mean does God trust me?" "Does God trust me with what?" "Or better yet with whom?"

I once heard a preacher say the greatest priviledge to have is for God to entrust us with another human being. Who out there is trusting you? Who out there is counting on you?

Recently, I was ministering in a prison when I asked for a show of hands of all the inmates who had dreams? Amazingly, almost all of them raised their hands! But what happened? How did it end up like this? What went wrong? You see all of them had maybe God given dreams at one time (and still do) but somehow they were crushed! Maybe they lost sight! Maybe they lost focus! Maybe they gave up but nevertheless they had dreams!

Just a few weeks ago I asked all of the leaders (both adults and teens) involved in our student ministry to write down whatever it was they believed God had called them to do. In other words, write down thier God given dreams. As I read over them something inside of me lit up. I am going to do whatever I can (in my power) to help them see thier dreams come true! I am going to encourage them to stay focused on thier dreams and to come against anything that would crush thier dreams! Not to lose sight! Not to lose focus! Not to let thier lives end up in a concrete prison with crushed hopes and dreams.

You see Jesus focused on his inner circle. Not that he didn't care about the masses because he did. But the Father entrusted 12 people which he called his apostles and he spent countless hours with them. Mentoring them, leading them, teaching them, and yes rebuking them when needed. They trusted him and all gave thier lives for him but one.

Whose dream are you trying to help come true today? Who trusts you? Who looks up to you? Who looks to you for help and guidance? Is it your wife? Your kids? That employee "under" you? Make it happen and you will be the one that is successful!

Single Moms Night

Life Church West Monroe wrapped up it's Single Moms Night last night with a room full of single mothers in our area whom we wanted to honor.
Let me say this; I've been able to minister in alot of different ways and settings but this comes close to topping it all. Guys, this is what it is all about,serving people!
I had the great honor to wait "hand and foot" and to serve these ladies last night. My motto, "keep the tea glasses full!". Although, it does give you some sort of satisfaction to serve people that is not why we are to serve. We are to serve people not because it makes US feel good but because Jesus commanded us to! We are told to imitate Christ!
Guys, we can reach many people in our area by simply serving them! We reach those whom we serve! I'm all about preaching a straight forward gospel message but we need not more preachers, but far more servants.People are more out to hear what we have to say when they see how much we care and we show them how much we care by serving!
A great preacher once said, "Preach the gospel at all times...and when necessary use words!" Let's live the gospel!

Jail Ministry

"For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)

I had the great honor of ministering in U.P.D.C. in Farmerville, LA again last night.
Last time we ministered in this facility we preached in what is called the D.O.C. and they already have a church established in this particular area. We decided to go in a different unit this time to have the opportunity to reach out to inmates where there is no "church" established. As the iron doors closed behind us I realized this was far from the "churchy" setting we had preached in weeks prior. We entered into the very large room of inmates greeted with rap music, inmates giving haircuts, and alot what you would see on the T.V. We made a few rounds shaking hands and talking with several of the inmates until it was time to round them up to have church. Most all of them were very attentive and wanted to hear what we had to say. After we "tag teamed" preached, mobs of them came forward for prayer and we spoke life into them.
I always realize Romans 3:23 applies to EVERYONE. We have ALL made mistakes. Thier mistakes are no different than the ones I have made. Sin is sin and it all leads to the same thing-death! We spoke to them about how God reconciled us to himself through his son Jesus Christ and that all who believed would be saved. We tried to bring hope in a hopeless place, life into a place of oppression, and encouragement to all within the sound of our voice.
I'm always thankful to go and minister there but I'm always thankful to walk out the doors. Thank you Lord for saving me.

The Power of Encouragement

"But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness." (Hebrews 3:13)

A few years ago I was going through a tough time in my spiritual walk when my sister gave me an envelope. Inside that envelope was a card with a page filled with sentences. Now, they weren't just ordinary sentences but sentences that contained words of encouragement! After reading that card I can remember feeling so empowered and encouraged.

Why does the Bible tell us to encourage one another daily? Because I believe the enemy does his best (either through your mind or people) to beat down believers on a daily basis! He knows if he can discourage believers he can weaken them.

In Acts Chapter 4 it tells of a man by the name of Barnabas which meant "Son of Encouragement." Did you know you can have a ministry of encouragement? There are people that need encouraging on a daily basis whom YOU have the power to refresh and encourage! The words you speak to them could change their whole day, week, or possibly life! "He who refreshes others will he himself be refreshed!". If you find yourself feeling down, go find someone that needs encouragement and you might findyourself being the one encouraged!

Wrapping up April and bringing in May

We wrapped up the month of April 2006 this past weekend with a bang.
To start the weekend off, the “Twenty Something” group had a “fast food” picnic at Kiroli Park where we enjoyed eating, fellowshipping, volleyball, and kickball (still sore from that). We always have a wonderful time getting together and Skye and Kyla Hibbard do a fantastic job putting these events together.
After Kiroli Park, Jodi and I went to the home of Cheryl and Joe Lopez where they were wrapping up their “Forty Something” Group. Joe and Cheryl invited Jodi and I to stay the night in their beautiful home in Fiddlers Creek. Joe and I stayed up watching a “cop show” then I hit the sack for some much needed rest after a long week. Saturday morning Jodi and I woke up to the smell of breakfast! Sister Cheryl can cook it up! She made us bacon, eggs, biscuits, grits, potatoes, smoothie drinks, wonderful fellowship! After the wonderful meal, Jodi and I soaked up some words of wisdom from Bro. Joe then headed back home.
Andrew Eastmond was our guest this past Sunday at Life Church. After playing a few songs on his guitar (and boy can he play!) he gave a very timely word from the word of God. We always enjoy Bro. Eastmond coming to Life Church to share each year.
To start off the month of May our Pastor declared a month of prayer and fasting. I am very excited about this declaration and I pray that all of us at Life Church would humble ourselves and pray and seek his face! May we see God do some amazing things in our lives and his church in the month of May!
Let’s remember and pray for our Pastor, Angel, Joe, and Stacie as they are in Jacksonville, Florida this week at the Association on Related Churches Conference that Celebration Church has hosted this week.

Wrapping up April, bringing in May

We had a wonderful weekend to end up the month of April 2006.

The "Twenty Somethin" group had a "fast food" picnic at Kiroli Park to start off the fun-filled weekend. We ate, fellowshiped, played volleyball, and then had a fun game of kick ball (still sore over that one).
After leaving our "Twenty Somethin" event Jodi and I went to the beautiful home of Joe and Cheryl Lopez who was just wrapping up there "Forty Somethin" group. Joe and Cheryl graciously invited Jodi and I to stay the night in their gorgious home to relax for the night. We call it the "Lopez's Bed & Breakfast"! We woke up Saturday morning to the smell of breakfast! Mrs. Cheryl can cook it up! We had bacon, eggs, biscuits, potatoes, grits, smoothie drinks, and you name it! After eating we enjoyed just soaking in the words of wisdom of Bro. Joe.
We had a powerful service this past Sunday @ Life Church. The worship team did fantastic (as usualy) ushering in the presence of God to prepare our hearts for the word of God. After Andrew Eastmmond played a few songs on the guitar (and boy can he play!) he gave a very timely word for so many of us through the word of God.
To start off the month of May we (Life Church) are declaring a month of prayer and fasting. It is my prayer, that we will humble ourselves before God that it would cause him to move in our lives and in his church! We will see!
Pray for our Pastor, Angel, Stacie, and Joe as they will be traveling to Jacksonville, Florida to be apart of the ARC Conference that Celebration Church and Pastor Stovall Weems will be hosting!

Real men wear pink???

This past Saturday afternoon our wonderful ladies of Life Church gave my wife and I a baby shower. I was surrounded by pink! Pink flowers! Pink decorations! Ladies in pink! Pink everywhere! I have to say I felt a little out of place at first but to see the big smile on Jodi's face made me glad I was there. The place looked great, the food was awesome, the flowers, the gifts, and the fellowship made it a wonderful event! Our baby is already truly blessed!

I would like to thank all of the ladies who worked so hard to put the baby shower on. Thank you for showing how much you care about us. We were truly humbled. You guys...er...I mean ladies are the best! Thank you very much! Life Church ladies rock!

God in Prison

"Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?' 45 Then he will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.' (Matthew 25:44-45)

I saw Jesus last night. I saw him as I drove up to the razor-bladed fence surronding the Union Parish Detention Center. I felt his presence as I walked up to the iron doors with my heart racing. I saw him as I saw several inmates on thier knees in a circle praying to God for the upcoming service. I saw Jesus as they approached me thanking us for coming, greeting us with big hugs and a "God bless you." I was continually having to fight away the tears as I prepared mentally and spiritually to give them the word of God. I knew in my mind that if it weren't for the grace of God I could and should be behind those bars with them.

It's been over a year since I've seen some of my brothers in Christ behind bars at UPDC. Some same faces, and some new. Prior coming to Life Church almost three years ago I worked with a good friend of mine by the name of Ricky Nolan who founded Hope Street Ministries. He's fed the poor (both spiritually and physically) in downtown Monroe for over 20 years now. I worked under Bro. Rick on the streets and in the prisons for over two years and this is where I recieved some valuable training and experience for the ministry.

I hooked back up with Bro.Rick last night for the first time in awhile and we "tag teamed" preached to the inmates in D.O.C. after we first sang praises to the Lord. It is amazing how strong God's presence was there. You see his presence is not confined to walls and although many have forgotten about these people, God has not. After the preaching of the word the inmates flooded to the front for prayer and encouragement. We prayed over them and spoke into their lives as God led us along.

Some of the most powerful services I've ever been apart of have been behind the walls of a prison. Why? I believe these people are desperate and hungry for God! "But once they get out won't they just end up back in?" We believe that the "truth shall set them free!" and they can live a victorious life in Christ!

Say a prayer today for those who are locked up. Many of them have come to know Christ behind bars and are now faithful servants of the Most High!

God's will for your life

One of the most commonly asked questions I've heard since I've been a Christian is, "What is God's will for my life?" We've probably ALL asked that question at some point in our journey as to the direction God wants us to take but have we ever thought of that question as it would relate to our lives everyday in a "practical" way?
"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." (I. Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Paul tells us of three area's where we should know the will of God in our lives in a practical everyday situation.

1) Be joyful always!
We are to be the most joyful people on the planet as Christians. Paul tells us to be joyful when? Sometimes? No! Always! There is a difference between happiness and joy. Happiness is based on circumstances while joy comes from within regardless of circumstances. So in the wealthiest country in the world why are so many depressed? The Bible tells us to "set our hearts on things ABOVE not on earthly things." When we lose sight of what really matters and we begin to place our hearts on things of the earth we become disillustioned. When we lose those earthly things or don't obtain those earlthy things we therefore become depressed. The Bible says the "joy of the Lord is our strength." Where does our joy come from? The Lord! Where does our strength come from? Joy! Satan knows if he can steal our joy then he can weaken our strength!
2) Pray continually
Paul lets us know we need to always be in a "spirit of prayer." So many things have taken priority over prayer these days. Instead of waking up on Sunday mornings on our face for the lost souls that will be in service so many times we spend hours in front of the mirror making sure WE will look okay for everyone that day. The time we spend in front of the T.V. (I'm talking to myself) could be well spent on our knees talking to God. Jesus told his disciples (when his time was drawing close) to "watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation." They didn't "watch and pray" so therefore when the time of testing came "they all fell away." Next time you are tempted to complain in a situation, don't! Pray!
3) Give thanks in all circumstances
This may be one of the most difficult things to do. How can you give thanks in a circumstance that is so very difficult to go through? It's tough, but it is God's will for us to give thanks in ALL circumstances, not just some. We know that God will work "all things together for the good." Next time you find yourself in a difficult circumstance ready to question God lift your hands to heaven and say, "God I don't understand why this is happening but I THANK YOU that you are in control of my life and you are working out something in me through all this!"

God wants spiritual fruit not religious nuts

I heard that statement years ago and have been asking God to help me develop spiritual fruit in my life since then as stated in Galations 5:22.
For far too long my spiritual life may have seemed "lopsided" as I tended to focus more on the spiritual gifts God had given me instead of the spiritual fruit I needed to develop in my life. I use to pray and fast with passion asking God to give me ALL of the spiritual gifts Paul talked about in I. Corinthians 12. While there is nothing wrong with that (given the motives are to glorify God and build up the church) I tended to neglect some very important issues.
I'm all for spiritual gifts and flow in the spiritual gifts God has given me but not at the expense of some very important things.
Paul tells us to "Eagerly desire spiritual gifts." (I. Cor. 14:1) and that "all these things must be done to strengthen the church." (I. Cor.14:26)
One day in prayer, I heard the holy spirit speak to me and say, "When was the last time you fasted and prayed for the love of God?"Wham! Wow! How humbling!
You see although God does desire to give us spiritual gifts, he does not want the gifts to be given at the expense of the love of God or the fruit of the Holy Spirit in our lives. You see the gifts of the Holy Spirit are irrevocable and can be given without repentance (Romans 11:29). If we are not operating the gifts carefully in the love of God we endanger others and can abuse the gifts God has given us to use for his kingdom.
I encourage you to use the gifts God has given you but more importantly ask God to help you develop the fruit of the Holy Spirit in your life.
Remember, gifts are given but fruit is developed!

X24 Aftermath

Well...We made it through the weekend and are STILL trying to recover!
Our first annual X24 Weekend was a great success thanks to everyone who came together in this team effort! All I can say is if you missed out on this weekend; well you just missed out!
Worship which was lead by "Altered" was so very powerfully annointed as I saw some teenagers worship God for the first time ever in song! The messages by Pastor Kevin Bates were life changing all weekend as he spoke on "Identity"(I still kick myself for not recording these).
Yes we had fun eating, fellowshiping, paintballing, staying up all night, egging, waterballooning, etc., etc., etc., but most importantly I believe we all connected with God in some way!
The only hope for this generation of teenagers (as with any) is Christ! I believe our teens are hungry for what is real and what is lasting! I believe they hunger for truth and authenticity! I believe they have the power through Christ to change! I believe they are leaders not followers!Our teenagers are not the church of tomorrow they are the church of today! Let's continue to stand beside them and walk with them into thier destiny to which God has called them!

Awaiting X24

We are all anxiously awaiting our first ever "X24 Weekend" (Life Church's D-Now) that will start this Friday night @ 5:30 P.M.
"X24" stands for the extreme 24 hours that will take place this weekend @ Life Church WM and also in several host homes in Ouachita Parish.
We are excited about having the worship band "Altered" that will lead us in worship during the course of the weekend. I had the great priviledge of speaking at a youth event last year where Altered lead worship. If you've never worshiped with Altered let me tell you...HANG ON! These guys (and girl) are passionate!!!
We are also excited about having Kevin Bates from Life Church Winnsboro come and be our speaker for the weekend. I met Kevin years ago when he was a youth pastor for a local church in our area and let me tell you, he's got a word from the Lord for this weekend!
It gets cranked up tomorrow night so be in prayer for all of our students and leadership over the next "X24".

Tried by fire Part II

"Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hottern than ususal and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace." Daniel 3:19-20

So you see sometimes God DOES allow us to be tried and tested by fire. Sometimes...the heat is turned up in our lives! Although it is difficult to be tried and tested by fire, the Bible teaches us there is a purpose for our experience. There is two points I want to make on why God allows us to be tested by fire.

1. To test our faith.
2. To test our works.

1. To test our faith-God wants to not only test our faith but to strengthen it. The only way faith is strengthened is to be tested. You can't get stronger in the gym if you aren't "testing" or allowing your muscles to experience resistence. That's how they grow!
The Bible says in I Peter "though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith-of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire-may be proved geniune and may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed."

2. To test our works.-God will allow our "works" or ministry to be tested by fire to reveal whether it is of man or of God. It will reveal not only our character but the character of the ministry we have established.
"...his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work." (I Cor.3:13)

Bottom line- Although yes God will allow us to be tested by fire we must understand one thing...He is right there in the fire with us!

"Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, "Weren't there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?"...He said, "Look!" I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods." (Daniel 3:25)

That verse gives me chills everytime I read it! Although these three men were tried by fire (literally) they walked in it! But they didn't walk in it alone, Jesus was with them and Jesus will be with you! The fire should have burned them! The fire should have killed them! It should have destroyed them but it didn't because they were walking with Jesus!

I don't know what you are going through today and I don't know how your faith is being tested but one thing I do know and that is Jesus is walking with you through the fire! Just like Nebuchadnezzar could see that, can people see the Jesus in you as you face your trials? Do they see you endure or do they see you complain? Does it witness to them? Do they wonder how come you are able to endure trials like no one else?

Jesus eventually delivered them out of the fire!
"So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out of the fire..."
Once Jesus delivers you out of your trial was his purpose accomplished? Did your faith prove genuine? Are you stronger? Are you refined?

I encourage you to take the time to read Daniel 3 and allow God to personally minister to you. It really blessed me! Thank God for his word!

Tried by Fire Part I

"...if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good.But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?"
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, the we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up." (Daniel 3:15-18)

We find in the third chapter of Daniel three men of God who are being tempted by satan through a king to bow thier knee to him. At what cost will we sell out God? For riches? For promotion? To please people? To avoid persecution? The Bible tells us that "whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me (Jesus) will find it." (Matt.16:25)

The scripture that stands out to me in this passage is found in verse 18 that says, "If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not..."

We've heard teaching through the years where we are lead to believe that all God wants us is "blessed" meaning if we have "faith" we can avoid hardships. We frown when we have prayed and prayed and yet God doesn't seem to come and rescue us. Why is that?
I believe these three men had it down pat. They knew God could come at any moment and save them. They had faith that he could and would! But...they had enough faith to know that even if God decided NOT to come and rescue them, they wouldn't bow to another god! They wouldn't sell out there king! They wouldn't let it damage thier faith!
What about you and I? Do we ever find ourselves in a situation where we are offended at God because he hasn't seemed to come to the rescue yet? Are we tempted to bow our knee to the tempter?
Find out in Part II why it is God may seem to "hold off" in rescuing us from our trials right away.

Identity Crisis

Well, today we are preparing for our student ministry service we will be having tonight. Tonight we are going to touch on a very hot topic amongst teenagers in America today. Identity and Insecurities. We will be learning lessons from the life of John the Baptist concerning these things.

So many teenagers today have lost thier identity! They don't know who they are anymore! They've allowed others to dictate who they are and Satan is molding them into what he wants them to become! Insecure, they go along not being confident in who they are in Christ. Insecure, they don't know thier purpose. Insecure, they put others down and criticize only so they can feel better about themselves.
But John, he knew who he was. He was confident in who he was in God. He said he was "the voice of one calling in the desert, 'Make straight the way for the Lord." (John 1:23) John had a mission and purpose and he wasn't going to allow others to change that!

What about you? Do you know who you are anymore? Are you confident enough in Christ to be who he has called you to be? Or do you have to follow the patterns of the world to feel good about yourself always needing everyone else's approval? Which will it be? God's approval or man's?

Pray for us as we minister God's word tonight!

The Life Giver

"I have come that they may have life..." (John 10:10)

For the past several months now we've seen trees with no leaves, grass that's dead, and lifeless surroundings in nature. Over the past few days something has taken place. Life! Tree's now are budding! Life is springing up through the ground! Green is popping up everywhere! Things that were once dead are now alive! God has brought life through the Spring season that is approaching!

At one time, we too were without life. We too were once "dead in our sins." Formless, void, empty, lifeless! We were like the tree's with no leaves and the dead brown grass with no green. Like nature in the winter, we too appeared not to be coming back to life. Dead. Without hope. That is until God sent Jesus Christ to bring life to us! We are now alive in Christ Jesus! We are like the fresh Spring season! New! Fresh! Alive!

I encourage you as you drive down the road the next few days to notice all the "life" that God is bringing through Spring and thank him for the "new life" he has given you through Christ!

Fusion Night...Aftermath

Fusion-the merging together of two different components to form one union.
Last night God's people didn't allow age, culture, or differences to come in between them. Fusion took place. A merging together took place for the sole purpose of worshiping the Lord our God.
Wow! Wasn't it awesome to see several different generations come together and worship God!? Worship was dynamic! Thank you Jesus for your wonderful presence!
God is really doing some awesome things at Life Church WM! I stood in awe last night as I reflect on what God has done just in the student ministry alone at Life Church. The vision is trully coming to pass!
I want to thank all the adults @ Life Church for making a great showing! Thank you for coming and supporting the Student Ministry! I'm proud to be apart of such an awesome church and around so many great people! I'm already looking forward to our next "Fusion Night" and I hope you are to!

Post Service...

We had a great night in the "Xtreme Diner" where we hold all our student ministry services. We had a good number of teens as well as adult leaders that came out to worship. Andre' and the worship team did a fantastic job ushering in the presence of God to till up our hearts to recieve the word of God. We preached a simple but yet VERY straightforward gospel message tonight as well. Are you born again? That was the question that was presented to our teenagers tonight. We had 8 respond to receive Christ tonight and we consider that a "win" for the kingdom.
We pray that we will be able to help them "grow up" in thier faith with Christ as they face the daily issues of life.
Please continue to pray for our student ministry team as we continue to go forward in our mission.
