A memorial is something to preserve a person or an event. Maybe you've seen some of the memorials around the country like the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Vietnam Vets Memorial Wall, or the Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima Memorial. They all have a powerful meaning behind them and serve to remind us of a person, people, or a very important event.
In Joshua Chapter 4, the nation of Israel had just crossed over the Jordan River. Joshua choose twelve men from each tribe to take twelve stones and pile them up in the middle of the Jordan River in front of the Ark of the Lord. Then in verses 6-7 we read, "We will use these stones to build a memorial. In the future your children will ask you, "What do these stones mean? Then you can tell them, "They remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the Ark of the Lord's Covenant went across." These stones will stand as a memorial among the people of Israel forever."
Amazing! These Israelite parents were commanded to be prepared to give an answer to their children when asked what the memorial meant! Notice, the PARENTS were told to tell THEIR children the meaning behind the memorial! Children/Teenagers have questions, but will we be prepared to have the answers?
Whether we realize it or not, we all have "Spiritual Memorials" in our lives. Do we provide our children/teenagers the opportunity to ask questions about these significant spiritual events that have taken place in our lives and families?
A "Spiritual Memorial" in my life is August 31, 1997--the day I was born-again. When August 31st rolls around every year, I can tell my children, "Today is a VERY, VERY special day" to which they respond, "Why, Daddy?" I then have the opportunity to explain to them the "meaning behind the memorial" which is the Gospel of Jesus Christ that transformed my life!" Maybe you have memorials like the day you found out a loved one was sick, but how God gave you the strength, or a day that someone was healed, or a marriage restored, or some other significant event. These are opportunities to explain to our children, "Look what God has done!"
What "Spiritual Memorials" do you have in your life? How can you use them to answer the questions that will arise from the curiosity of children/teenagers?
"The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus. "(Acts 4:13)

Consultation
The Israelites had just gotten through defeating the towns of Jericho and Ai. The people of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to both these towns so they resorted to deception in order to save themselves from the same destruction. The kings west of the Jordan River had already joined forces in order to fight as one against Joshua and the Israelites, so the people of Gibeon put together a deceptive plan.
They sent ambassadors to Joshua, loading their donkeys with withered saddlebags and old, patched wineskins. They put on worn-out, patched sandals and ragged clothes. And the bread they took with them was dry and moldy. When they arrived at the camp of Israel at Gilgal, they told Joshua and the men of Israel, "We have come from a distant land to ask you to make a peace treaty with us." The Israelites replied to these Hivites, "How do we know you don't live nearby? For if you do, we cannot make a treaty with you." They replied, "We are your servants". "But who are you?" Joshua demanded. "Where do you come from?" They answered, "Your servants have come from a very distant country. We have heard of the might of the Lord your God and of all he did in Egypt. We have also heard what he did to the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan River--King Sihon of Heshbon and King Og of Bashan (who lived in Ashtaroth). So our elders and all our people instructed us, 'Take supplies for a long journey. Go meet with the people of Israel and tell them, "We are your servants; please make a treaty with us."
"This bread was hot from the ovens when we left our homes. But now, as you can see, it is dry and moldy. These wine skins were new when we filled them, but now they are old and split open. And our clothing and sandals are worn out from our very long journey."
"So the Israelites examined their food, but they did not consult the Lord." Then Joshua made a peace treaty with them and guaranteed their safety, and the leaders of the community ratified their agreement with a binding oath." (Joshua 9:4b-15)
Outwardly, everything looked squared away to Joshua and the Israelites. The story seemed believable and the Israelites examined the food, however, they made a big, big mistake--they forgot to consult the Lord! God can see what man cannot! He is Sovereign!
How many times do we go about our lives making decisions that matter for eternity without ever consulting the Lord? Young people make life altering decisions like marriage without ever consulting the Lord on WHO to marry. Many people take on new jobs without ever asking God on what HE wants our what we should do. I see parents allowing their children and teenagers to make decisions that matter for eternity as if it were as simple as choosing between where to eat lunch. When we fail to consult God in any matter that matters for eternity, we are setting ourselves up for failure! Any eternal decision that is made in our lives, must be proceeded with a meeting with the LORD OF OUR LIVES. He has the answers, he is just waiting for us to come to him for those answers. He is waiting and willing to lead and direct every area of our lives.
Are there any decisions in your life where you have failed to consult with the Lord? What was the result of failing to do so? As parents, it is vital that our children/teenagers see us consulting with God on eternal matters!

Spiritual Orphans
An "orphan" is one defined as a person without protective affiliation, sponsorship, etc. One bereft of parents, not authorized, supported, or funded. One who is not part of a system, one who is isolated or abandoned.. The United States is a wonderful country in which I am extremely thankful to be a citizen. I am PROUD to be an American and to have the opportunity to raise my family in this great country. Through the years the United States has been the world leader in so many different areas. However, there is an area in which America leads that is not so praise worthy--fatherless. The United States is the world leader in fatherless homes (if there is another study out there that proves otherwise, please feel free to correct me.) Young men that grow up in fatherless homes are: five times more likely to commit suicide, thirty-two times more likely to run away, twenty times more likely to have behavioral disorders, and nine times more likely to drop out of school. As you can see, the result of fatherless homes is DEVASTATING not only to a home, but to the children in which it produces--DEVASTATING! As sad as this is, the same can be true in the "spiritual sense". There are not only children growing up without physical moms and dads, but spiritual children trying to make it without "spiritual moms and dads"--"Spiritual Orphans".
"I am not writing these things to shame you, but to warn you as my beloved children. For even if you had teen thousand others to teach you about Christ, you have only one spiritual father. For I became your father in Christ Jesus when I preached the Good News to you. So I urge you to imitate me." (I. Cor. 4:14-16)
Not only did Paul visit Corinth, he also maintained regular contact with the church in Corinth through letters, sending representatives, etc.
When someone is "born-again", they become the "children of God" and are to be discipled. These disciples are then in turn are to "make disciples" as well. Many people don't understand how to make disciples because they themselves have not BEEN discipled.
The first portion of Jesus' last words before he ascends to heaven is, "Go therefore and teach all nations..." The word "teach" here, "math-ayt-yoo'-o" means to be a disciple of one, to follow his precepts/instructions, to make a disciple, and to teach/instruct.
I believe a big portion of the "discipleship" process is through mentoring.
A mentor can be defined as, "a wise and trusted counselor or teacher, an influential senior sponsor or supporter."
A few things mentors can provide is:
1. Relationship
2. Instructions, directions, and training
3. Replication
4. Modeling
1. Relationship
One of the biggest keys in mentoring someone else or being mentored by someone else is "relationship". When we take an interest in someone else's well-being or "growth" we long to be in contact and relationship with them.
You can provide instruction, direction, and training to someone, but what makes all of that so powerful and transferable in all of that is the power of the influence that comes from the relationship!
Look at the way Paul addresses Timothy and Titus.
"I am writing to Timothy, my true son in the faith." (I. Timothy 1:2) Again in I. Timothy 1:18, "Timothy, my son..." and again in 2. Timothy 2:1 when he says, "Timothy, my dear son..." In Titus 1:4 he addresses this young man in the following way, "I am writing to Titus, "my true son in the faith." Again, these are intimate words that Paul is taking ownership in when he says, "my" and "dear".
Consider how he addresses Philemon in regards to Onesimus in Philemon 1:10. "I appeal to you to show kindness to my child, Onesimus. I became his father in the faith while here in prison."
Yes, although he was physically away from his child Onesimus, Paul still loved deeply Onesiumus and took a major interest in his well-being spiritually.
2. Instruction, direction, and training.
A mentor is someone who takes an interest in a life or lives, is able to provide instruction, direction, and training.
"Timothy, my son, here are my instructions for you, based on the prophetic words spoken about you earlier. May the help you fight well in the Lord's battles." (I. Timothy 1:18-18)
"As for you, Titus, promote the kind of living that reflects wholesome teaching. Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience. Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good. These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.
In the same way, encourage the young men to live wisely. And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching. (Titus 2:1-7)
In the above, we see that instruction and training is necessary when it comes to mentoring and making disciples. Many believers don't know what to do or how to do it because they've never been taught or shown. Do you know how many young men and women are out there that are LONGING for an older, wiser person to spend time investing in them? LOTS!
3. Replication
"You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others." (2. Timothy 2:2)
In other words, teach others what you yourselves have been taught. Make disciples who will make disciples! Jesus spent time with the 12 who would in turn make disciples of others!
There is a man I have brought alongside of me the past few years that I got involved in a mentoring program. What is he doing now? Mentoring other young men! Where did I get a heart for mentoring from? Men who spent time mentoring me! The "replication" process just continues to be passed down! These older mentors of mine didn't mentor the men I mentored; they just simply mentored me and I in turn mentored others!
4. Modeling
"As for you, Titus, promote the kind of living that reflects wholesome teaching." (Titus 2:1)
"Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God." (Titus 2:3)
"That's why I have sent Timothy, my beloved and faithful child in the Lord. He will remind you of how I follow Christ Jesus, just as I teach in all the churches wherever I go." (I. Cor. 4:17)
Through the years, I've had tons of verbal instruction from older men that have "stuck with me". However, many times more is "caught than taught". Whenever those men would let me into their "world" or their "home"I "caught" so many things by observing their lifestyle! There must be verbal teaching, but there also must be lifestyles of godliness and examples that are modeled as well!
Are you being mentored? Do you have a desire to mentor others?
1. Who is "in your world" that you can mentor? Start there.
2. Mentor those who have a desire to be mentored or ask someone to mentor you.
There are many out there that long to have a "spiritual mom and dad".
Blessings,
Beck

In Father's Arms
For the first 9 1/2 years of our marriage, Jodi and I lived in a beautiful area far out in the country. We were the only house on the road and the driveway leading up to our property was 300 yards long. On my 30 minute drive home each day, I could not wait until I would turn off the main road unto our drive, to see my kids anxiously waiting on the porch of our home for their daddy. Most days, they were not only waiting for me, but would actually RUN up to my vehicle jumping up and down awaiting me to pick them up to wrap them in my arms. This would fill, not only THIS dad's heart with joy, but ANY true father's heart with joy!
Do you and I passionately pursue our Heavenly Father? Does our souls long to run into His arms and embrace Him?
"So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God's Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, "Abba, Father". (Romans 8:15)
As an earthly father, my Heavenly Father has given me so much insight to HIS heart. "Beck, do you know what it does to MY HEART when I see MY CHILDREN joyfully pursuing ME?" WOW! If I, an earthly father, understand the joy of seeing my children pursue me, how much more joy does it bring to our HEAVENLY FATHER, when we pursue Him! The amazing thing is, he not only awaits our pursuit of Him, but he actively pursues US!
Consider the parable of the lost son, or more popularly known as, "The Prodigal's Son".
When the way-word son came to his senses he said, "I will go home to my father and say, "Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me on as a hired servant." So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him." (Luke 15:18-20)
Have you "strayed" away from the safety of your Heavenly Father's arms and long to come back? Have you done some things that you now realize were foolish? I encourage you today, to confess your sins, repent of them, and run to your Heavenly Father! You very well may catch him running directly to you!
"Draw near to God and he will draw near to you." (James 4:8)
Parents-the best thing we could model in front of our earthly children is for them to see us running to our Heavenly Father. Do they see us actively pursuing God?
Just as our Heavenly Father pursues us, do we pursue the hearts of our children/teenagers?
My prayer today, is that you would find yourself embraced in the "Father's Arms". Take some time today to embrace your children/teenagers as well!

PG-13 (Parental Guidance in 2013)
I’ve always enjoyed watching movies. Growing up,
one of my favorite movies was “Rocky IV”. Be honest, if you’ve ever watched
that movie, it made you want to go out and endure a grueling workout in the
gym! Certain movies can be exciting, humorous, and very inspiring, while some
can be scary, sad, and even extremely vulgar. A motion picture rating system is designated to classify films with
regard to suitability for audiences in terms of issues such as sex, violence,
substance abuse, profanity, impudence or other types of mature content
that is designed to help
parents decide whether a movie is suitable for their children or not. In the
United States, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), through the Classification and Rating
Administration (CARA), issues ratings for movies which are as follows: G, PG,
PG-13, R, and NC-17. “PG” means that parental guidance is suggested and “PG-13”
is strongly suggested, especially for children under the age of 13.
In the Bible, you can find “PG-13”. However, it isn’t a suggestion
to parents, but a command. It is found in Deuteronomy 6:4-9, which is known by
the Jewish people not as “PG-13”, but as the “Shema”.
“Listen, O Israel! The Lord is
our God, the Lord alone. And
you must love the Lord your
God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And
you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving
you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them
when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed
and when you are getting up. Tie
them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write
them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
In
the passage above, God’s Word is commanding parental guidance, but it begins
with our OWN commitment to God FIRST.
“And you must love the Lord your God with all
your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit
yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I’m giving you today.”
1.
As parents, we must first have a loving devoted
relationship to God in which we are dedicated and wholeheartedly committed to
following him!
Ø As parents, we cannot lead our children/teenagers
in a direction that we aren’t headed ourselves. Children/Teenagers are not dumb
(although some parents may argue thatJ) and they watch most everything we do and say!
Do we model a life-style of devotion to Jesus Christ in which our
children/teenagers want to follow after? Is our relationship to Jesus
attractive to them? Do they see us reading God’s Word, spending time in prayer,
putting God first in EVERY decision we make in our families? We cannot expect
our children’s/teenager’s passion for God to be great, if ours is not. We guide
them FIRST, by pursuing Christ OURSELVES!
“Repeat them again and again to your children.
Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are
going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie
them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write
them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
2. Parental Guidance includes REPEATING the
commandments of God over and over again to OUR children/teenagers.
Ø As we are pursuing of
full-devotion to Jesus Christ we also are to teach our children/teenagers to do
the same. So, when? The above passages give us at least four different places
to do that.
A.
“…when you are at home.”
a.
The most private and real parts of our lives take place
within the dynamics of our home. Who we are at home is who we are! The home is
the place where our most intimate relationships are developed! It is the most
important small group we will ever be a part of! When you are at home, take the
time; make the time to talk with your children/teenagers about God’s Word. Some
places could include:
·
Around the breakfast/dinner table.
·
In the living room or den.
·
Outside on the swing.
B.
“…when you are on the road.”
a.
Talk about God’s Word and spiritual things going down the
road and going about life! Talk about spiritual truths when you are headed to
school, ball-games, church, and other outings.
C.
“…when you are going to bed.”
a.
With little kids it may be a good idea to pile up with them
in their bedrooms to talk about scripture and pray. Another good idea with both
children/teens may be to all meet up in the living room (or whatever
centralized area you have in your home) to talk about life and the faith, and
end with prayer.
D.
“…when you are getting up.”
a.
Try reading the daily proverbs around the breakfast table in
the morning as a family or saying a prayer together before everyone goes about
their day.
If you’ll notice, the above passage gives
us as parents four strategic time frames to talk with our children/teens about
the faith! The magical key? We must not just “hope they catch our example
only”, but we also must TALK about God’s Word!
So this year, I pray your home is Rated “PG-13”
(Parental Guidance in 2013!)
I’m continually praying for God’s power to
work through you in raising disciples in your home!
Partnering with you,
Beck

Can you hear me now?
In our earlier years of marriage, we lived in a home with no
central heat and air. Our air and heating source came from a little, but loud,
window unit that was in the wall of our den. When the compressor would kick in
on that unit, it sounded like a 747 was about to land in our den! That unit was
so loud it would shake the side of the wall! One night, it was operating loudly
while Jodi was in the kitchen preparing our supper. Little did I know, she was
calling out to me from the kitchen. The only problem was, I couldn’t hear her
due to the loud noise! She came in the den and asked, “Beck, why aren’t you
answering me?” To which I responded, “I couldn’t hear you!” The problem wasn’t
that she wasn’t calling out my name; the problem was that I couldn’t hear her
due to the noise! The noise had simply drowned out her voice!
I learned a valuable lesson that night (get rid of the air
unit!). How many times has the Holy Spirit called out to us, only to find us
unable to hear His voice due to the noise IN US and AROUND US?
In Psalm 131: 2, David says, “Instead, I have calmed and
quieted myself, like a weaned child who no longer cries for its mother’s milk.
Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me.”
Many a souls are like a raging storm tossing and turning
inside, unsettled by the noise from within. Many people’s lives are so loud
with activity and peppered with busyness all the while Jesus is calling out, “Come
away with me. Get away from the noise so that I may speak to you.” Sometimes,
it takes us getting away from the noise of life so that we can “quite our souls”.
You may be asking yourself, “Why doesn’t God ever speak to
me?”, while he is saying, “I’m trying.”
Get away, get quiet, and listen for the voice of God.

10 Year Anniversary
"The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he recieves favor from the Lord." (Proverbs 18:22)
Jodi and I just celebrated our "10 Year" Anniversary in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Thank you SO much to Dr. and Mrs. Blaine Borders for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home there!
When I married Jodi on September 28, 2002 I found a treasure! My life has been greaetly enriched by this treasure of a woman!
Here are 10 "gold nuggets" out of this treasure!
1. She seeks Jesus Christ daily longing to grow closer to him. Every day I come across a woman who is either out on the back porch or in her favorite chair in the family room with her Bible cracked opened looking for the "hidden treasures" found all throughout God's Word.
2. She's an incredible mother to my three children! Jodi has remained true and stayed extremely focused on one of her greatest callings--motherhood. She is my three children's mother, teacher, counselor, doctor, and the list goes on and on! Motherhood flows out of who she is!
3. I understand the "beauty is fleeting", but it hasn't left just yet! My wife is a gorgeous woman! She still has the incredible ability of just being a "knock out". She takes care of herself physically and I love that about her! She looks great whether she is "made up" and ready for a date, or on the couch with no make-up on! She is beautiful!
4. She is fun! One of the things I love about Jodi is that she loves to laugh! She has a great sense of humor. We love piling up and watching a good, clean comedy together!
5. She has a beautiful smile! She has a smile that will bring a smile to anyones face! Her smile makes you think that everything is going to be alright!
6. She is an extremely gifted decorator! The woman is so creative and is so great at making our home feel like a home! She can take what she's given and transform a place! She is great at finding inexpensive things and making the most of it!
7. Great cook! This got me in trouble our first year of marriage because she was raise an ole-country gal! Fried Chicken! Mashed Potatoes! These were the norm our first year of marriage--hence the 10 pounds I gained! I always look forward to coming home to a good meal!
8. Closed lips! You tell her something and want it kept quiet? It's good and safe with her! She is a great friend, a great listener, and can keep your confidence! She can be trusted!
9. She gives me liberty to be me. I've always loved this about Jodi. She doesn't "squash" me or want to know where I am every hour of the day. She allows me to enjoy the things that give me life, never nagging, and I appreciate this so much about her.
10. She's always supported "our ministry". Our greatest ministry is to our family and she has always been sold out to that vision and all in! She's an incredible help-mate to me carrying out our most important mission which is to move our family forward to the life that is the Kingdom of God. She has always been by my side in whatever ministry that God has called us into the serve his church. Never, not once, has she fought me on this. It helps us move forward and I am so incredibly blessed I don't feel like she is jealous of Christ's bride.
We have had great moments, very difficult moments, but nevertheless, God has continued to teach us things and move us forward closer to his ultimate plan for our life. God has used Jodi to refine me, better me, enhance my life, and make me a stronger disciple of Jesus Christ! I am so excited about the next ten years of our lives! I love you Jodi and thank you for being faithful to me!

Family Church Beach Trip Devotion-Day 5
"Then Jesus said, "Let's go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile." (Mark 6:31)
We all can get physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually tired. There is no better place to find rest for our complete being (our body, souls, and spirits) than when we find a quiet place to get alone with Jesus Christ.
As we approach our last day at the beach, maybe your mind is beginning to think upon the stress, troubles, and worries of life that may be awaiting you back home in West Monroe, Louisiana. Paul said in Philippians 4:6, "Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."
As you find a quiet place today to "rest in Him", cast all your cares and worries on Christ through prayer. As you trust in him, may you experience the only true peace that can give true rest for your soul.

Family Church Beach Trip Devotion-Day 4
"Oh my son, give me your heart. May your eyes take delight in following my ways." Proverbs 23:26
As parents, one of the greatest victories we can experience in life is to win our children's heart over. When we "have the heart" of our child through meaningful relationship, we have access to speak into the deepest most important parts of their lives. Have you ever tried to have spiritual conversations with a child or teenager without first having won their heart over? It's not easy!
Making "heart connections" with your child or teen takes time. It takes intentionality and purposefulness in every day life. Be watchful of the opportunities to spend time doing things with them that they enjoy doing.
"As the scriptures say, 'A man leaves his father and mother and is joined together to his wife, and the two are united into one.' Eph. 5:31
God desires for their to also be unity and oneness in the marriage relationship. The enemy will do everything he can to hinder the unity in a marriage. You have the opportunity tonight to make a "heart connection" with your spouse. It takes time, effort, hard work, and lots of prayer to maintain a sense of unity in your marriage. But, when that is maintained and built upon, there is such power and satisfaction in that relationship!
So, as you go about your day watch for opportunities, or better yet; make opportunities to connect with your children and teens. Go boogie boarding or shopping. Maybe build a sand castle with your little one, go to Waterville, or play some volleyball with your teenage son. Tonight, make an effort to tell your spouse the things you love about them. Pray and ask God to bring true unity to your marriage!

Family Church Beach Trip Devotion-Day 3
In Luke 10:30-37, we read of a Jewish man that was attacked by robbers and left for dead. First, a priest noticed the man and his condition, but failed to do anything about it. If anybody should have cared for and had compassion on a man in need shouldn't it have been a priest? Next, a Levite actually noticed the Jewish man and walked over to take a closer look, but still decided to not get involved. Last, the most unlikely of all people noticed the Jewish man and actually took action--a Samaritan. This man not only took care of the injured Jew, but went "the extra mile" bandaging his wounds, putting him up for as long as his money would last, and offered to cover any expenses that went over what he had. What is amazing about this scenario is Jews and Samaritans didn't associate with each other--they weren't "apart of each others circle."
Sadly, sometimes as believers we never take the time to notice others who aren't apart of our "circle". Sometimes thier "needs" or "injuries" cause us to want to look the other way and not take the time to get involved. I encourage you today, take some time to look at someone who isn't apart of your "circle." What are some things you could do to show you care? Maybe you could take time to listen, invite them over for coffee and dessert, or just take some time to get to know them a little bit better.

Family Church Beach Trip Devotion-Day 2 (May 29th)
“The heavens proclaim
the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.” (Psalm 19:1)
“For ever since the
world was created, people have seen the earth and the sky. Through everything
God made they can clearly see his invisible qualities-his eternal power and
divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.” (Romans 1:20)
In our fast-paced society, we rarely take the time to stop
and take in God’s creation that is all around us. When we take the time to
“take in” the beauty of the heavens, we are witnessing the glory of God. When
we stop to “look a little longer” at the awesome colors of the sky at the
beginning of dawn or after a long day at dusk, we are witnessing the very
craftsmanship of our Creator God. When
we stop to view nature and God’s creation, we are actually viewing God’s
invisible qualities-his eternal power and his divine nature. Take some time today to watch the clouds, look
at the sky, watch the sunset, listen to the power of the waves of the ocean,
listen to the sea-gulls or the laughter of a child, and let the cool breeze of
the winds refresh you! Don’t get so busy today that you miss “seeing God” in
all of His marvelous creation!

Family Church Beach Trip Devotion-DAY 1
“The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and
forever.” Psalm 121:8
Most nights before I go to bed, I thank God that he watches
over my family even when I am not. I can rest in peace at night knowing my
Heavenly Father is watching over each one of my family members even as my eyes
are closed. Although I sleep, he does not!
I can’t watch over every one of my family members, loved
ones, and friends every second of the day, but I am thankful that HE does. When I am physically away from those I love,
I’m thankful that because God is omnipresent, HE is there even when I am not.
We can experience such perfect peace trusting in God’s sovereignty.
That he sees all, knows all, watches over all, and knows what’s best for us. We
can travel in peace and enjoy our time together this week knowing that we have
prayed and trusted God with the protection of our lives and families.
Dear Lord,
We thank you for the
opportunity to have an incredible week with our family and friends. We ask you
to protect us from any accidents or harm as we travel. We pray for you to
protect us from sickness, harm, and from the evil one’s schemes. We trust that
you foresee what we cannot; and, that you allow what you know is best for us.
We pray for your hand to be on this entire week!
In Jesus name!

Father/Son Campout
As parents, we are called to impress our faith upon our children. I believe having a strong relationship with our children gives us the platform to share our faith and access to their hearts. It's difficult for chlidren or teens to recieve a value system or faith from someone they have no relatonship with. The relationship is what gives us the influence into thier lives, not just the authority position only.
Proverbs 23:26 starts off by saying, "My son, give me your heart." As fathers, we should want to win the heart of our sons. Spending quality time with our sons shows that we love them and want to be apart of their lives. "Doing life" together and special activitites together gives us the opportunity to talk about life and get to know one another.
Many fathers from Family Church took advantage of this opportunity this past weekend. The dads spent time with their sons setting up tents and the camp area. The view of watching fathers and sons cook that evenings meal as they chatted was awesome! Later that evening all the men and sons gathered around the campfire as we sang worship songs together followed by a devotion by Ryan Jordan. Many of the boys there spent time hanging out together and having "BB Gun Wars" (glad no moms were around). We had several men step in to partner with single moms by taking their boys to the campout by "adopting" them for the weekend. For some, this was their very first time to campout.
Great job men and thanks for being involved in your sons lives!

The Law of Sowing and Reaping
Although there are certain man made laws upon the earth that can be willingly broken, there are certain “laws” in the universe that cannot be overturned or broken. Take the “Law of Gravity” for instance. Most definitely, “What goes up must come down!” But there is a particular law that is of the upmost importance-the law of sowing and reaping.
When we hear the term or phrase, “Sowing and Reaping” we immediately begin to think of it in terms of finances. The Bible certainly teaches about “sowing and reaping” in the area of finances (2. Cor. 9) but it also goes beyond that arena as well.
How often do we think of the term “sowing and reaping” as it pertains to our words and actions? Do we believe that the “words” we sow into others or say out loud just fall to the ground? Do we believe our actions just “go away” even after they are played or lived out? Our words and actions can result in a harvest of great blessings or they can result in a harvest of destruction!
“Don’t be misled-you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone-especially to those in the family of faith.” (Galatians 6:7-10)
If we believe that there is no blessing for our obedience to the Spirit or if we don’t believe that there are no consequences to our disobedience to the Spirit than we don’t understand the “justice of God”. God is good. God is love. God is merciful. But don’t forget that God is holy and is just as well. There is truly nothing we can “get away with” –either good or bad! Our obedience won’t go unnoticed by God nor will our disobedience carry no consequences. The fact that we have repented and confessed our sins doesn’t erase the fact that there will still come a harvest of either blessings or consequences from our words and actions. The fact that “I didn’t hurt anybody” doesn’t carry much weight with God!
As parents, do we understand that everyday of our lives we are “sowing” something into our children and teens? Does it not occur to us when we come home and undermine authority by speaking disrespectful that we are sowing rebellion into our children? When we speak openly and disrespectfully around our kids about the teacher that got on to them, the pastor that “didn’t call to check on them”, the political official that we don’t agree with—we are sowing into their lives—destruction! Rebellion! When they see us tell a “little white lie” or not be “completely honest” we are sowing deception into them!
There have been times where I have seen something come to fruition either in my wife or children that I knowingly sowed there! Now, I realized I was beginning to see a harvest I wasn’t pleased with. There have also been those times where we have faithfully and persistenly sowed, and sowed, God’s word into them and we began to see a righteous harvest begin to sprout into their young lives.
Timothy’s faithful mother and grandmother sowed into him as a young boy. (2. Tim. 1:5; 2 Tim. 3:15)
Consider the following examples from God’s word:
In Genesis chapter 20 Abraham deceived King Abimelech when he tried to deceive the King by hiding his wife Sarah’s identity. In doing this, he sowed this sin into his son Isaac who continued in his father’s footsteps when he too deceived King Abimelech! But guess what? It didn’t stop here! It carried into the third generation when Jacob, Abraham’s grandson and Isaac’s son, Jacob, lied and deceived to Isaac to steal his brother Esau’s blessing! Did it stop even there? No! Remember the story of Joseph? Jacob’s favorite son? He had brothers who lied and deceived there father Jacob into believing that Joseph and been brutally killed!
Exodus 20:5b says, “I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me.” You may say, “But I’m a Christian, I’ve accepted Jesus!” When we reject God’s word we are rejecting God’s way and since Jesus is the word who became flesh, we are rejecting him!
But there is good news! Exodus 20:6 goes on to say, “But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands.”
Just as there is consequences in our disobedience there are great blessings and rewards for those who obey God! When your words and actions you sow into your family are words and actions that are pleasing to God, there is no end to the blessings they will harvest!
So, sow righteousness into your family by saying and doing things that are pleasing to God!
What type of harvest will you see in your family?

A word to the older generations
A word to the older generation
I’ve heard many older or elderly people make the comment, “I’ve got nothing left to give”, “I’m past my prime”, or “Nobody would listen to me anymore.” They have lived a whole life building up reservoirs of wisdom and understanding learning both from their good and not so good choices. Here they are towards the later part of their life and are they suppose to be pushed to the side? Now, that they are older are they to be “put on the shelf” to be remembered no more? Is there nothing the younger generations could learn from our “mothers and fathers” in the faith?
David was nearing the end of his life. He was well past the “giant slaying” years. Many had said of David that the Lord had left him; he had become weak physically, and now was their chance to get him.
David had been pouring out his soul to God and in Psalm 71:17-18 he says, “O God, you have taught me from my earliest childhood…”
In other words, I’ve walked with God my whole life and I have a lifetime of lessons that I learned from God almighty—He has been faithful!
He goes on to say, “and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things you do.” Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God.” David was saying that he is always telling others about all that God had done for him in his lifetime and that yes, although he faced the fact that he was old now, he was saying, “God, I’m not done!” “God, just because I’m an old man that doesn’t make me a worthless old shoe to be thrown out!” “God, just because I am old please don’t abandon me! I may not be able to walk like I use to walk, I may not be able to fight the way I use to fight, but Oh, God I still can proclaim your great wonders to other people!
Listen, he says, “Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me.”
Older generation let me tell you, just because you are older now does not mean that you have become useless to God and worthless to His kingdom! Look, you are just now in a position to pour back to others all that you have “mustered up” in your lifetime! There is a generation of believers coming up after you that desperately needs to hear your story! There is a generation of believers coming up after you that desperately needs to hear about the wonders of God Almighty! You have the stories to tell! You have the wisdom and the understanding that we need! Please don’t keep silent and allow all that you have been through to become wasted! Tell us your stories! Tell us about God’s mighty hand in your life! Hand off the baton of faith to the upcoming generation! God is not through with you yet! God is not abandoning you to your old age! You open your mouth to all who will listen and tell about the mighty miracles and wonders of the God you have served!
